Las Colinas History
In 1972 affluent rancher Ben H. Carpenter decided to create one of the first planned communities in the country, and the south's largest mixed-use development. The community, which he called El Ranchito de Las Colinas, covered over 12,000 acres of land and was planned with the help of urban planners to ensure that every need of its residents would be fully met. With time the development, later called Las Colinas, began to thrive. The building boom of the 1980s took Las Colinas right alongside it, and many corporations began to move their headquarters, and their employees, to this little community. When the real estate market crashed, the community began to suffer, but the 1990s brought it back with the development of another multi-million square foot office space.
Las Colinas Today
Today, Las Colinas houses over 2,000 companies, including several Fortune 500 names. Alongside these major area employers, luxury town homes, spacious single-family estates and three private country clubs await those who are moving to the area. Modern Las Colinas also boasts the only AAA Five-Diamond resort in Texas, the Four Seasons Resort and Country Club, located on MacArthur Boulevard.
