Coppell, TX Community Information

Coppell, TX is the quintessential bedroom community located in the northwest corner of Dallas County. Its growth in recent years due to the presence of the Dallas / Fort Worth International Airport has been unprecedented, and many have turned away from the urban centers in favor of this charming community. Coppell has responded well, developing itself from the inside out and building its infrastructure to take good care of its residents.

Unique History

Coppell's history is one of slow, then unprecedented, growth. The area was first settled in the 1840s by French and German immigrants and named Gibbs Station after Barnett Gibbs. In 1892 the name was changed to Coppell, after a wealthy Englishman who had influence on the area. It remained a small, agricultural community for years until 1955 when the tiny town decided to incorporate.

Coppell, Texas continued to grow slowly but without much notice until 1974 when the Dallas / Fort Worth International Airport opened, and the tiny farming village transformed quickly into a thriving upper-middle class suburb. By 2000, most of the community's residentially zoned land was developed and the population had grown substantially. Today, the DFW airport remains a central focus of the economy and population of Coppell providing both employment and transportation opportunities.

Exemplary Schools

One of the outstanding features of Coppell is its exceptional schools. All of the elementary schools within the Coppell Independent School District have received an exemplary rating from the Texas Education Agency, as well as some of the middle schools and high schools. The community is one that supports its schools, and this is shown in the excellent opportunities, both academically and through extra-curricular activities.
